Cleaner - Band 1 Salary is pro rata as part time role Facility Services and Sustainability Location: The University of Hull, Cottingham Road Campus Working Hours: 06:00–10:00, Monday to Friday Contract Type: Continuing (Permanent, Part‑Time) About the Role We are looking for 10 x committed and reliable Cleaners to join our Facility Services and Sustainability team. Working 20 hours per week 06:00-10:00 Monday - Friday, 4 positions working 06:00 -10:00, 2 positions working 10:00 -14:00 and 4 positions working 13:00 -17:00 You will help provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for all building users. You will play an important role in delivering high‑quality cleaning, and waste management services, supporting a positive working culture built on customer service, engagement and teamwork. Key Duties and Responsibilities Provide effective cleaning, housekeeping and waste management services as part of a wider cleaning team. Work collaboratively to maintain a positive team culture focused on customer service, staff engagement and morale. Deliver cost‑effective and compliant cleaning and waste management across designated areas. Maintain high standards of work in line with Infrastructure Services’ core values. As an individual team member, support the delivery of departmental objectives. Establish and maintain effective day‑to‑day working relationships with colleagues, customers and building users. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Desirable: Previous experience in a cleaning role. Awareness of safe working practices related to cleaning operations. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post Provide cleaning, housekeeping and waste management services, working as part of a team five days out of seven, maintaining a working culture that maximises customer service, staff engagement and staff morale. Deliver cost effective, compliant cleaning, and waste management. a high standard of work in adherence to Infrastructure Services core values. As an individual cleaning team member support the delivery of objectives. As an individual team member establish effective day-to-day working relationships Actively support the University vision and core values providing the best possible service delivery. Provide basic information to the Cleaning Supervisor regarding monitoring procedures and processes. Assist in promoting a customer focussed culture and approach within the Cleaning Service. Assist to a positive Health and Safety culture across the team. Provide basic feedback to help with the production of risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work as required. Help to ensure that materials and stock levels are maintained as required to undertake cleaning duties. Contribute to maintaining an accurate asset register of all equipment and undertake regular equipment inspections. Act responsibly in ensuring efficient and effective usage of materials, equipment and supplies, limiting wastage and damage to equipment. Undertake tasks assigned by the Cleaning Supervisor in an appropriate and timely manner. Provide basic feedback to the Supervisor to allow for the production of a quarterly Risk Management report. Contribute ideas that will enhance/improve the service provided. Liaise with Cleaning Supervisor and University colleagues, in relation to appropriate time to undertake certain works to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum. Undertake appropriate CPD to ensure good practice and new technologies/improvements in the area are maintained. Assist in the delivery of the Waste Management Strategy. Undertake all duties issued by the Cleaning Supervisor and periodic maintenance of equipment throughout the year to ensure all areas are clean and ready for key times and events. Adhere to the University’s Health and Safety and other associated policies, maximising the safety and protection of staff and users. Contribute to the maintenance of statutory records including COSHH assessments, risk assessments and water flushing sheets. Assist the Cleaning Supervisor in maintaining efficient and working practices across areas of operation. Where appropriate report complaints received from students, visitors, staff and the public regarding the services offered and also the environment. Be an active and supportive member of Facility Services working collaboratively with fellow colleagues across the department in achieving our departmental and university objectives Flexibility in working hours / days will be a requirement of the post holder who will be expected to work during the day, evenings and weekends. It is expected that the role holder will work five days out of seven.
