Senior Ecologist – £35,000–£40,000 Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid)

An established environmental consultancy is expanding its ecology team and is looking for a Senior Ecologist to join their Edinburgh office. The organisation has spent nearly two decades supporting sustainable development and is known for investing in its people, offering real career progression and a collaborative culture.
Opportunity
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, we’re seeking a Senior Ecologist to support a wide range of renewable energy and infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with colleagues across multiple environmental disciplines and play a key role in survey delivery, reporting, and client support. Your role will be shaped around your strengths and career goals, but is likely to include:
* Building and maintaining client relationships
* Preparing tenders and supporting business development
* Scoping and managing small to large‑scale projects
* Planning, managing and delivering terrestrial and freshwater ecological surveys
* Liaising with statutory bodies, NGOs and stakeholders
* Producing high-quality technical reports (PEA, EcIA, etc.)
* Supporting clients during construction, restoration and monitoring phases
* Mentoring junior team members
* Working in line with CIEEM’s Professional Code of Conduct
What We’re Looking For
* BSc/MSc in a relevant subject and minimum 5 years’ experience
* Associate or Full CIEEM membership (or working towards it)
* Strong field skills and a desire to continue developing technically
* Experience with protected species surveys and licensing (e.g., bats, GCN, otter, water vole, badger)
* Understanding of UK ecological legislation and guidance
* Strong project management and report‑writing skills
* Ability to work confidently with contractors and clients on site
* Full UK driving licence
Desirable (not essential)
* ECoW / EnvCoW experience
* Ornithology survey and assessment skills
* Hydrological monitoring
* Biodiversity net gain advice
* Peatland assessment or restoration experience
