Generic Specialist Practitioner – Clinical Nurse Specialist for Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) and Preparation of Patients for Elective Surgery (PREPS)

The Role

We’re looking for motivated and forward-thinking professionals to join our multidisciplinary team within Perioperative and Surgical Services across NHS Lanarkshire.

This is your chance to be part of a pioneering service that ensures patients are fully prepared for surgery through enhanced pathways including PREPS (Preoperative Preparation Services) and ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery). NHS Lanarkshire serves a population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in both North and South Lanarkshire. Our Acute Services provide hospital-based services over three main sites, and our Corporate & Property & Support Services, North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships deliver integrated primary healthcare and social care services to local communities.


Qualifications & Experience

* Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC / HCPC Registration
* Educated to Degree Level
* Postgraduate qualification at a minimum of Level 10 (Hons) or working towards
* Expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
* Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
* Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification.
* The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative.
* Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Effective time management skills.
* Working knowledge of basic information technology. This may include non-medical prescribing where there is a requirement for this within the specialism and legal framework to enable this to occur.


Desirable

* Evidence of professional development in surgical specialties, enhanced recovery and prehabilitation.
* Extensive experience within a surgical speciality and familiar with pre and post care of patients.
* Knowledge and understanding of surgical presentations and elective surgical procedures.
* Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence.
* Ability to work on own initiative to lead a service and deliver education and training to staff and patients.
* Excellent communication skills and knowledge of computer systems.


Contract Details

* Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months.
* Full time.
* 37 hours per week.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.


Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Surgical, Gynaecology and Critical Care Directorate within University Hospital Wishaw. Whilst this advertisement may be for a specific post(s) in a particular location, applicants who are shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.
