To provide and develop the political administrative arrangements for the co-ordination and delivery of the Council's decision-making functions, including Council, regulatory and scrutiny committees and School Admission Appeals. To provide procedural advice to Members, officers, the public and external clients ensuring the effective operation of the Council's political decision-making system and compliance with the Council's Constitution, standards and legislative requirements.
To co-ordinate and support the delivery of civic events across the borough and provide proactive and efficient administrative and project support to civic activities.
To support the delivery of all elections as they occur under the general direction of the Head of Democratic Services.
The Democracy and Elections team are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our busy team to cover a period of maternity leave. You will have a varied work package which will include support to the Council's decision-making function; committee administration; supporting civic events; School Admission Appeals. You will be involved in the preparatory work for and the delivery of the 2027 Cheshire West and Chester Borough and Parish/Town Council elections as well as the first Elected Mayoral elections for the new Cheshire and Warrington Combined Authority. You will need to have a high level of ICT and organisational skills and be able to provide procedural advice and support to a range of regulatory and scrutiny committees, working groups and panels, either in person or using MS Teams.
Reasonable attendance at evening meetings in venues across the Borough will be necessary, as well as weekend working for civic events and events in Chester Town Hall.
During peak periods such as the elections, the post holder will be expected to be able to work outside of normal office hours.
