An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in our Early Pregnancy /Emergency Gynaecology Clinic as part of our Women’s Services at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse, with an early pregnancy scanning qualification and experience in early pregnancy care, to complement our team.

The ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills will be essential to maintain the high standard of sensitive and empathic care that we currently deliver.

The successful candidate, will work with the wider team in the day to day running of the Unit, as well as supporting the scanning provision of the Unit.

We currently run a 6 day week service and are open Bank Holidays. This may become a seven day service in the future. Opening times are 7 am until 5.30 pm Monday to Friday and 7.30 to 13.00hrs Saturday and Bank Holidays. The successful candidate may also be required to work in other outpatient gynaecology areas.

Main duties of the job

The applicant must have NMC registration and a qualification in early pregnancy scanning with the ability to work independently as a nurse sonographer within the NMC Code of Professional conduct, and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS FT, Policies and Procedures.

At this level the post holder is expected to work as a highly skilled senior practitioner and to have expert knowledge of all aspects of emergency early pregnancy referrals, practice and patient management.

The primary focus of the role is to work as an advanced, autonomous practitioner providing patient-centred clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment plans (discharge or referral) of patients.

The post is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care

The post holder will be expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role, within a defined framework.

They will be expected work at an advanced clinical level within their level of competence and to work flexibly as part of the team, providing a quality service in line with the philosophy of the gynaecology services.

Work independently as a nurse sonographer within the NMC Code of Professional conduct, and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS FT, Policies and Procedures

Be clinically proficient in a wide range of ultrasound techniques and practices

Develops and implements a plan of healthcare management or refers appropriately for further evaluation.

Assesses care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care for clients attending the clinic without supervision. Delegates the delivery of care where appropriate and supervises its delivery.

Recognises limitations within own professional knowledge and practice, and seeks advice and support as appropriate from other multi-disciplinary colleagues.

Assesses and manages risks associated with health and safety issues and reports untoward incidents.

Identify and report the need for review of gynaecology ultrasound protocols in the event of change(s) in working practices.

Reports on ultrasound findings, ensuring all documentation is completed in accordance with the Hospital trust and NMC guidelines for record keeping.

Ensures confidentiality of patient information and conform to the Data Protection Act for personal information held on computers.

Person specification

Qualifications

* Current NMC registration
* Qualification in Early Pregnancy Ultrasound
* Post graduate certificate in Gynaecology Ultrasound

Experience

* Experience of working in an Early Pregnancy Unit
* Experience of early pregnancy assessment

Knowledge

* Knowledge of gynaecology/early pregnancy care
* Awareness of clinical governance

Personal skills

* Able to effectively use computers and NHS software
* Able to demonstrate a caring attitude to clients
* Able to demonstrate the ability to undertake challenging conversations
* Counselling or coaching skills

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
