Generic Specialist Practitioner - Nurse Specialist - Skin Cancer
Location: University Hospital Monklands, NHS Lanarkshire. Contract: Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months; Full time, 37 hours.
What you’ll do
The Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist in Skin Cancer provides highly specialised cancer care across NHS Lanarkshire, spanning three university hospitals. You will coordinate the complex care needs of people with skin cancer across all stages of the pathway—from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up or end of life care. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan and implement care using evidence-based practice and client-centred principles, and provide expert advice and support within your defined specialist area.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of a programme of clinical audit and research activity.
* Contribute to supervision, education and development of multidisciplinary team members.
* Provide effective leadership within the scope of the role.
What we’re looking for
Qualifications and experience
* Registered Nurse or AHP with valid NMC / HCPC Registration
* Educated to degree level
* Postgraduate qualification at minimum Level 10 (Hons) or working towards
* Specialist knowledge and experience in dermatology/skin cancer; ability to lead safety and delivery of service
* Comprehensive knowledge of relevant clinical guidelines and standards
* Leadership skills to manage day-to-day service delivery; ability to motivate others and work with initiative
* Continuous professional development in the area of specialism, including study days/courses/postgraduate qualification
* Excellent team-working, listening, communication and interpersonal skills
* Effective time management
Desirable
* Fundamentals in Cancer Care or Principles of Skin Cancer
* Advanced Communication Skills / Training; Counselling skills qualification
* Non-Medical Prescribing (V300); Advanced Clinical Assessment & Decision Making
* Accredited SACT course; extensive post-registration experience in Dermatology/skin cancer
* Experience in nurse-led clinics in Dermatology/skin cancer; case management experience
* Experience as a CNS in upper Dermatology/skin cancer; experience with audits and research
* Experience with prioritising work and managing competing demands
* Knowledge of national/regional/local cancer strategies
