With huge screens, top-tier entertainment, great food & drink, and an unbeatable atmosphere, our Grandstand pubs are built for people who live and breathe live sport. We don’t just show sport - we live it. From matchdays to live music and big sporting moments, Grandstand pubs are where local communities and fans come together, and where your next partnership could start.
A major investment is set to transform the Royal Telegraph, Derby, introducing Marston’s Grandstand concept to this city-centre site – a bold, sports‑led proposition built around standout screens, big‑game atmosphere, great food and a welcoming community feel. Designed so every fixture feels like an occasion (while still being a pub people can enjoy any day of the week), this investment will position the Royal Telegraph as a go‑to destination in Derby.
Live sport will be central to the future offer, with the Royal Telegraph already well placed as a Derby County supporters pub. From DCFC matchdays to major tournaments, cup runs and headline sporting events, Grandstand is all about creating shared moments through immersive viewing and an electric atmosphere. This will be supported by a Marston’s‑branded Grandstand menu, featuring sports‑inspired favourites, bar snacks and crowd‑pleasers designed to drive trade throughout the week – not just on matchdays.
The pub is open plan with a striking central horseshoe bar, creating natural zones for casual drinks, dining and big‑screen viewing. Outside you’ll find an external courtyard and a large car park – a real advantage for a city-centre operation. Set in a prime Derby city centre location opposite Derbion (Derby’s biggest shopping and entertainment complex) and within a short walk of Derby County Football Club, the Royal Telegraph can attract a wide mix of customers – from shoppers and circuit drinkers to sports fans and families.
The proposed investment is due to take place in October 2026 but the pub is available from July which will give the successful candidate the opportunity to recruit sports teams, introduce weekly events i.e. quiz, bingo etc. and establish a loyal customer base pre-closure for the investment. Currently the Royal Telepgraph has a turnover of approx £8k per week, but its turnover post investment is circa £15k a week.
We’re looking for an experienced, sports-driven Pub Partner who thrives in high-energy, wet-led environments and knows how to create standout guest experiences week in, week out. Previous food experience is essential, with experience operating branded food offers a strong advantage. You’ll be commercially focused, confident leading large teams, and passionate about using sport, atmosphere and great hospitality to drive results and make your pub the place everyone wants to be.
