We're offering a Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship, specialising in Control & Instrumentation, based at our Hinkley Point A & B Sites in Somerset where you'll gain nationally recognised qualifications, hands-on experience, and expert support, all while earning a salary.
What Is the Apprenticeship?
This Government-approved Level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship provides in-depth training in Control & Instrumentation – a critical area of nuclear engineering focused on system monitoring, fault diagnosis, and precision calibration. The programme includes:
* Block release study at Bridgwater and Taunton College
* On-the-job learning at Hinkley Point A & B Sites
* Training in a safety-critical nuclear environment
* Mentorship from experienced nuclear engineers and technical staff

Key Responsibilities
As a Control & Instrumentation Apprentice, you'll learn to:
* Assist in the maintenance and calibration of instrumentation equipment
* Support troubleshooting and system diagnostics
* Help install, test, and commission control systems
* Record and interpret technical data
* Work safely within highly regulated, secure environments
Entry Requirements & What We're Looking For
We're looking for motivated individuals who are ready to learn and grow in a challenging but rewarding environment.
You must:
* Be 18 or older by 3 August 2026
* Have 5 GCSEs (grades 9–4 / A–C)* including Maths, English, and Science
* OR have completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship
You should also have:
* A passion for science, safety, hands-on learning and Nuclear Safety
* Great attention to detail
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Teamwork and communication abilities
* A proactive and positive attitude

The Recruitment Stages

* Online Assessment (Neurosight): you will be sent a link from Neurosight to complete an online assessment to your email inbox that you applied with if you meet entry criteria.
* 1st Stage Interview (Online): you will be invited to attend a 1:1 online interview with an Early Careers member from the Nuclear Restoration Services. You will be required to have access to a microphone and video capabilities.
* 2nd Stage Interview (In-Person): you will be invited to attend an in-person interview with the relevant hiring manager(s) and an HR business partner. The location will be at the relevant site or at a suitable alternative location in close proximity. Your invite will indicate the location and further instructions so ensure you read the invite in full.
* Offer/Onboarding: if successful, you will be offered the position. The Early Careers team from Nuclear Restoration Services will be in contact to start your onboarding process and setting you up on their systems.
*Depending on the specific requirements of the business, you may be requested to bypass the first stage interview and proceed directly to the second stage interview.
