Job Overview An opportunity has arisen for a permanent, full time (10 session) Neonatal consultant or a Paediatrician with special interest in Neonatology post in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The post holder will join the existing Neonatal Consultants’ team making a total of 7 permanent Consultants. The Neonatal Unit is the Sub-regional Neonatal Intensive Care Centre (SuRNICC) at Glan Clwyd Hospital. Main duties of the job The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of Neonatal and Perinatal Care across North Wales, with the aim of delivering a high quality, safe and holistic service as close to the families’ homes as possible. This will depend on good capacity management of the network, and on developing services in neighbouring hospitals so that early repatriation of babies no longer requiring intensive care can occur. The post-holder will need to develop working relationships with colleagues in Wrexham and Bangor and provide any support they may require. In addition; linking with Consultants from Merseyside and North West England are also important to allow access to tertiary services not available in North Wales, e.g., Cardiac and Neonatal Surgery in Alder Hey Hospital. Please contact Ambrose Onibere Consultant Neonatologist Ambrose.Onibere@wales.nhs.uk 03000 844436 Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria GMC Specialist Registration in Neonatology or Paediatrics with Neonatal interest or CCT (Paediatrics) with Special Interest (SPIN) in Neonatology (or substantial experience or training of at least 2 years in the field of neonatology) within 6 months of date of interview MRCPCH or equivalent Valid Level 3 Safeguarding training NLS provider course Valid BLS Training Desirable criteria CCT with sub-specialty neonatal training (NTN grid scheme) MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent higher degree NLS Instructor Advanced Paediatric Life Support (provider course) Advanced Resuscitation of Newborn Infant (provider) Experience Essential criteria Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team Working as part of the management team Experience of liaison with other agencies eg child protection agencies Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit Experience of working in regional and sub-regional neonatal units and evidence of subspecialty interest within neonatology, commensurate with consultant skills. Desirable criteria Experience of research Experience of neonatal transport Skills And Abilities Essential criteria Leadership Skills Team Working Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff Skilled in performing and interpreting cranial ultrasound scans in neonates Understanding of information systems and technology Ability to take a lead role in clinical development Desirable criteria Proficient in neonatal echocardiography Another sub-specialty to complement those in the department, e.g., neonatal neurology, ultrasonography, perinatal experience. Additional Requirements Essential criteria Flexible and adaptable to competing demands Commitment to modern practices Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner Ability to undertake on-call Desirable criteria Welsh speaker or willingness to learn
