Lead the Future of Nuclear Waste Management
We are supporting a leading client within the nuclear and environmental sector in their search for a highly experienced Principal Environmental Consultant. This is a senior strategic role based in Warrington, offering the opportunity to influence national energy security, shape best‑practice environmental solutions, and lead high‑impact consultancy projects.
Role Overview
As a Principal Environmental Consultant, you will apply your technical authority to solve complex challenges, lead integrated waste management strategies, and support the long‑term environmental objectives of major nuclear programmes.
You will take the lead on strategy, innovation, stakeholder engagement, and team development, playing a key role in the continued growth and success of the consultancy function.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high‑level technical direction across environmental and waste management workstreams.
Mentor, coach, and develop team members at varying levels of experience.
Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and clients.
Drive consultancy growth in alignment with organisational strategy.
Lead on the development and implementation of integrated waste management strategies.
Provide authoritative input to resolve complex technical and regulatory issues.
Produce detailed technical documentation, reports, and presentations.Essential Experience
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience within the nuclear industry, demonstrating:
Deep applied knowledge across areas such as nuclear decommissioning, site restoration, spent fuel management, and environmental planning.
Proven ability to develop and deliver waste management strategies.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with regulators, clients, and senior decision-makers.
Leadership experience, including people and project management.
Consultancy background with strong understanding of industry best practice and technical governance.Qualifications
Degree in Engineering or Science (or equivalent).
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer/Scientist status (essential).
Additional certifications in nuclear safety or waste management (advantageous).Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
