About the role
We are looking for a passionate Engineering Lead to join the Stream Processing team and take ownership of the core critical business functions served by the team.
Our Stream Processing team is part of the Data Squad. We provide the tooling and infrastructure that allows Wise to process transfers in real time. Our stream processing platform enables services to do calculations and make decisions in milliseconds, powering our validation, fraud detection, and anti‑money laundering checks.
We also provide the services responsible for data movement into our data lake. This enables product teams and analysts to make data‑driven decisions.
How will you be contributing to the team
You will be responsible for the well‑being of the team, coaching, mentoring and growing a high‑performing team by working on high‑impact solutions.
You will support the team with occasional hands‑on involvement as a software engineer and systems operator, bringing senior engineering expertise into building solutions.
You’ll be collaborating with other lead engineers, product managers and the wider organization.
Exactly what you’ll be doing day to day will vary as our team looks at the big picture challenges we see across all of analytics engineering and business.
How we work
We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation and reusable design. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem but also follow through and help implement the design, drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe.
As we grow the Stream Processing team we need to sustain this growth by continuously iterating on the services we run with a focus on availability, security and ease of use. We’re looking for a lead with relevant experience who can analyse complex requirements and make the team deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence.
What do you need
You have a solid background in development in Java ecosystems, upholding high coding standards and a thorough understanding of system design and engineering principles.
You have expertise in leveraging cloud services from providers like AWS or GCP and have used your platform engineering skills to develop robust, scalable and efficient infrastructure.
You have a comprehensive understanding of key concepts such as high availability, scalability and security.
You are familiar with stream processing frameworks like Kafka Streams or Flink and have worked with stateful pipelines at scale.
We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!
* Passionate about technology and its relationship with product and user experience.
* You are a security and privacy advocate, understanding concepts such as principle of least privilege and are able to apply basic security principles at infrastructure and application level.
* Customer is at the heart of everything you do and this empathy drives all decisions you make.
