About Us
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is located in Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council – a unitary authority - prides itself on its dedicated team of professionals committed to providing quality services to the community. RBWM offers significant opportunities due to its proximity to London, expanding business sectors, and its status as a major cultural and tourism hub, including attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland, and Ascot Racecourse.
Given our Royal connections, we attract global attention, and we continue to rise to the challenges we face.
The Role
This is an exciting time to join our finance team at RBWM. We aim to build a world-class finance team to support our services in navigating the challenging financial environment faced by local authorities. With the lowest Council Tax outside London, we have a record of efficiency, but we recognize the need to strengthen our finance team to meet future demands.
The role reports to the Head of Finance Business Partnering and involves leading a team of management accountants to deliver insightful budget monitoring to senior management and elected members. You will be crucial in the budget setting process, collaborating with finance colleagues and service managers. Technical skills are essential, but so is the ability to build relationships with non-finance colleagues. An innovative mindset is also important as we seek to improve financial management practices. Additionally, you will be expected to coach CIPFA graduate trainees.
We have multiple roles available and are open to discussing which area best aligns with your career ambitions.
The working arrangement is hybrid, with an expectation of being in the office approximately two days per week to foster team motivation. Attendance at business-critical meetings in person will be prioritized.
For an informal discussion about the role, contact the Assistant Director of Finance at julian.mcgowan@rbwm.gov.uk.
What We Offer
* 32 days of annual leave
* A generous Local Government Pension scheme including life cover (3 times your salary) and an AVC scheme to enhance your pension
* Free employee parking near the offices
* Give As You Earn scheme
* Instant Reward Scheme recognizing innovative achievements
* Employee Assistance Programme offering counselling and support
* Access to discounts with retailers, including gym memberships and travel deals
RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, encouraging creativity and innovation. As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all backgrounds, believing that diversity strengthens us.
If you have a disability, are a current or former armed forces member, or have been part of a formal care system up to age 25, you are guaranteed an interview if you meet the minimum requirements.
