Wyre Forest District Council is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Principal Planning Policy Officer who is able to work both individually and as part of a professional team to deliver a local plan review, including reviewing and interpretating complex evidence base documents, policy drafting and stakeholder and member engagement. You will have a can-do attitude, with strong communication, analytical and time management skills and in-depth knowledge of planning law. The role would involve: To lead in all aspects of the preparation of the Local Plan and matters relating to planning policy development To support the development of Neighbourhood Plans and maintenance of Custom and Self-Build Register, Brownfield Land Register and related work Undertake research, studies and surveys into specific planning and housing issues and problems To give evidence on behalf of the Council at public inquiries and informal hearings when necessary Undertake the examination of plans and similar planning policy documents published by other authorities under Duty to Cooperate (or any replacement) requirements The essential requirements for this role are: Degree in Town and Country Planning or equivalent qualification Corporate membership of the RTPI and a commitment to CPD requirements of the RTPI Minimum of 4 years post qualification experience, some of which will have been spent in a policy formulation role Sound knowledge of spatial planning principles, concepts and legislation Experience of writing planning documents Experience of giving evidence at hearings and examinations Excellent written and verbal communication skills Able to work under pressure and to deadlines Experience with GIS and have good IT skills Actively co-operate and work collaboratively with others in pursuit of team goals Must be able to demonstrate a political awareness reflecting the responsibilities of this post Must have a Full UK driving licence A market supplement of up to £8,000 per annum may be offered to an exceptional candidate, depending on qualifications and experience. The Council supports hybrid and flexible working and would be happy to consider a range of working hours up to the standard 37 hours per week. It is desirable that the post holder provides an appropriate means of transport for use in connection with the duties of this post. Recompense will be at the rate as agreed by the Council. You may, therefore, from time to time be required to provide suitable vehicle and your car insurance should cover you for business use.
