Streetworks manager

Offer description

About the role: You will be responsible for the communication and engagement with local authorities and our construction partners to continue developing and building robust working relationships. Working with our growing wider team, you'll have the chance to identify and develop innovative solutions to existing processes to improve our ways of working as well as the opportunity to build, manage, and lead a full team of Streetworks Coordinators and Administrators, ensuring efficient handling of all permitting, noticing and compliance activities.

This is a permanent, staff position open to applicants based in or around the Hamilton (Glasgow) area, although we are also happy to consider applications in the Loughborough area. Both locations offer a flexible hybrid working pattern.

What you'll do:

* Ensure full compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), Traffic Management Act (TMA), and all relevant UK legislation.
* Manage and coordinate all Streetworks activities related to ICP utility connections projects, including planning, permitting, noticing, and reinstatement.
* Liaise effectively with local authorities, highways agencies, DNOs/IDNOs, and other stakeholders to secure permits and resolve conflicts
* Be the key point of contact for escalations or changes to our roadworks programmes to help minimise the impact of our work on road users.
* Oversee the permit application process, ensuring accuracy, timely submissions, and adherence to statutory deadlines.
* Monitor and manage Section 50 licences, Section 58 restrictions, and Temporary Traffic Regulations Orders (TTROs).
* Lead on coordination of traffic management plans, ensuring minimal disruption to the public and compliance with safety standards.
* Conduct regular audits and inspections of Streetworks sites to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with reinstatement requirements.
* Manage and resolve FPNs (Fixed Penalty Notices), defects, and Section 74 charges, minimising financial and reputational impact on the business.
* Provide technical support and guidance to project teams regarding Streetworks legislation and best practice.
* Maintain accurate records of permits, notices, inspections, and correspondence for audit and reporting purposes.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, ensuring issues are escalated and resolved in a timely manner.
* Support business development by providing Streetworks input for tenders, bids, and new connection projects.
* Train and mentor staff on Streetworks compliance and processes, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.

About you: This is a key customer-facing role, so excellent interpersonal skills are a must! You already have extensive experience of onsite roadworks activities, engaging with local authorities, and you are always looking for ways to nurture and improve stakeholder relationships, going above and beyond for clients. In combination with your working knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) and onsite best practices for roadworks activities, we believe the following skills and attributes will set you up for success:

* NRSWA Supervisor certification is essential
* Understanding of HAUC, NRSWA, Roadworks UK and other relevant safety standards for UK roadworks
* Strong organisational skills, with a practical approach to managing multiple onsite projects in a changing environment
* Experience in leading and developing a small team
* Excellent IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
* A full valid UK driving license
* Knowledge of the utility and energy industry is a big plus!

Hybrid working policy: We are pleased to offer a flexible hybrid work pattern for this role. We feel this encourages the best engagement and collaboration with your team and co-workers, while allowing you to enjoy a work life balance based on your own needs and preferences.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; our commitment to DEI: As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to the equal treatment of all current and prospective employees and do not condone discrimination based on age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, gender identity, or marriage and civil partnership. We recognise the value that a diverse and inclusive workforce brings to our business and customers, and we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds to join us.
