To be an efficient, flexible member of the laboratory and wider Pathology service providing a consistently high quality and professional service. The Operational Managers for Cellular Pathology are key members of the Cellular Pathology Team. As such responsibilities extend beyond the technical performance of the department, the post-holder will be expected to assist in the management of resources (staff, equipment, consumables and premises), with a view to achieving optimum quality and efficiency.
The Operational Managers will play a lead role within their speciality and will be expected to respond positively to the changing demand on the service, through innovation, communication, setting standards, and achieving results. The post holder will coordinate and manage all aspects of the local delivery of Digital Pathology and automation projects within the Cellular Pathology Department, working with laboratory, procurement, IT, and business management as it advances towards next-generation automation.
The Operational Manager for Cellular Pathology will be expected to deputise for the Service Lead and other Operational Managers in their absence.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Having in-depth scientific and technical expertise in Cellular Pathology to understand how Digital, AI, and Automation will be embedded into the daily operations of the laboratory.
2. Proactively monitoring and reporting on progress against project plans, including managing risks and benefits, ensuring projects stay within budget.
3. Reporting project progress regularly to the Cellular Pathology Manager, Clinical Lead, or other stakeholders up to Board level.
4. Managing dependencies and interfaces between projects within the organization’s governance structure.
5. Producing strategic documents for the trust that involve complex analysis, interpretation, or comparison of options.
6. Applying high levels of knowledge to specialist business issues using evidence-based methodologies, including analytical and problem-solving techniques.
7. Leading the digitization of workflows and automation pathways, including implementing AI systems to assist reporting pathways.
8. Maintaining scientific and clinical credibility through clinically and scientifically focused work.
