Booking Clerk - Sexual Health

As a Band 3 Booking Clerk, you will serve as a vital link between patients and the clinic, managing appointments, maintaining accurate records and providing a warm, confidential welcome to all callers.
Job Overview
* Provide accurate, timely administrative support for a centralised booking service.
* Ensure appointments meet local and national access targets, using initiative in complex situations.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a cohesive administrative function.
* Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients, clinicians and external agencies.
* Use IT systems effectively to manage bookings, data entry, and reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good General Standard of Education (GSCE Maths & English A‑C or equivalent).
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent knowledge and experience, or willingness to work towards this qualification.
* IT qualification or proven experience using Microsoft Office.
Desirable Criteria
* European Computer Driver Licence or equivalent experience.
* Statutory mandatory training per Health Board policy.
* Understanding of basic medical terminology.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital, GP practice or call‑centre environment.
* Experience dealing with the general public.
* Previous waiting‑list management experience.
Essential Skills
* Excellent written, verbal and telephone communication.
* Strong interpersonal skills with clinicians, senior managers and clerical staff.
* Ability to respond to unpredictable issues and re‑prioritise workload.
* Proficient keyboard and computer skills; regular use of telephone.
* Concentration in an environment with frequent interruptions.
Desirable Skills
* Competent with Microsoft Office.
* Competent with PiMS Patient Administration System or similar PAS.
* Knowledge of data protection, Caldicott guidelines.
* Experience with databases and Excel for sorting/filtering data.
