Safety Inspector Based at Elland (visiting sites in Yorkshire/Midlands area 3 days per week) Hybrid- one day in office/one day at home/on site £38k - £40k car allowance bonus 23 days holiday As a Safety Inspector, you will play a key role in ensuring that all operations across the companys energy projects and installations comply with the highest health, safety, and environmental standards. You will be responsible for conducting regular site inspections, performing risk assessments, and monitoring compliance with health and safety regulations to guarantee that its installers adhere to both legal and internal safety standards. Collaborate with internal teams and our network of installers to implement and drive continuous improvements in on-site health and safety standards. Provide support to the SHEQ Manager in daily reporting tasks, including conducting unannounced, targeted site visits to ensure compliance and safety. Key Responsibilities: Site Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular on-site inspections of ongoing energy projects and installations to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards. Perform safety audits of work practices on sites, including evaluating risk assessments, method statements, and safety protocols. Assess energy projects to ensure proper handling of materials, tools, and machinery, mitigating any risks on-site. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with both internal safety policies and national health and safety regulations, including those relevant to energy systems and installations. Monitor and verify that all workers, including installers, are using the correct PPE and following safe working practices. Ensure that safety measures are in place for all activities involving hazardous materials, working at height, and other potentially dangerous tasks. Contractor support: Engage with contractors to address any health and safety concerns or challenges they are facing. Foster an open line of communication to ensure safety protocols are clear and adhered to. Provide advice and assistance to contractors regarding H&S compliance, offering solutions to improve their safety practices. Ensure that contractors meet safety requirements, addressing any issues directly before they become bigger problems that could lead to third-party inspections. Perform on-site evaluations of contractor work practices, making recommendations for improvements where necessary. Incident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions that occur on-site, preparing detailed incident reports. Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. Ensure that all incidents are recorded and reported in line with company protocols and regulatory requirements. Safety Training and Awareness: Assist in delivering health and safety training programs for employees and installers. Promote awareness of safety practices and encourage a culture of proactive safety behaviour across all teams. Provide guidance and support in maintaining high standards of health and safety. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Provide regular safety performance reports to senior management, highlighting areas of concern and improvement. Ensure compliance documents and safety records are up-to-date, and ready for regulatory review or internal audits. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving health and safety procedures and work closely with the team to implement better safety practices. Stay updated on new health and safety regulations, industry standards, and safety innovations that can be applied to their operations. Skills: Attention to Detail: Ability to thoroughly assess safety risks and identify potential hazards in energy-related operations. Investigative Skills: Strong ability to conduct incident investigations, analyse root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to report findings and recommendations clearly. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to identify safety concerns and develop effective solutions to mitigate risks. Organizational Skills: Exceptional time management and organization skills to handle multiple inspections and audits simultaneously. IT Proficiency: Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other reporting tools for documentation and record-keeping. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a health and safety inspection role, ideally within the energy, construction, or utilities sectors. Experience in auditing and ensuring compliance with safety regulations in energy operations, including installations, generation, and distribution, is highly desirable. Certifications: NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent certification is essential. Additional qualifications such as TECH IOSH, SMSTS or SSSTS. Knowledge: Understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and industry standards for energy sector operations. Knowledge of regulatory standards in the energy sector, HSE guidelines, and PAS standards related to energy systems and installations.
