Principle Design Engineer
Location: Oldham, Manchester (Onsite only) | Salary: £65,000-£75,000 benefits | Hours: Mon-Thu 07:45-16:45, Fri 07:45-12:45 (38 hours/week) | Start Date: Ideally early December, January also considered
Are you a hands‑on mechanical design expert with leadership potential? We're hiring a Principle Design Engineer to join a specialist engineering team working on a diverse and bespoke product portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong technical foundations and a desire to grow into a broader management role.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Leading and mentoring a small team of 3 engineers (soon to be 4), including a junior engineer
* Reviewing and improving existing designs across a wide range of mechanical products
* Supporting the transition from design to production and manufacturing
* Getting involved in all aspects of the design lifecycle - from concept to productionising
* Working onsite full‑time in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment
What We’re Looking For
* 5 years of mechanical design experience, ideally in regulated or precision engineering environment
* Strong 3D CAD skills - SolidEdge preferred, but not essential
* Some leadership or mentoring experience - managing experienced and junior engineers
* British national with a valid British passport (due to export/trade restrictions)
* Within 1 hour commute of Oldham - no hybrid or remote working available
Nice to Have
* CFD experience (FLOEFD)
* Familiarity with GD&T principles
* Experience in bespoke or low‑to‑mid volume manufacturing (#removed# units/week)
* Exposure to flow performance evaluation or similar analysis tools
