Support of the ongoing development and learning of maternity staff and support the culture of learning at UHD. Deputise for the band 7 in their absence, provide clinical skills within educational and clinical areas.
The midwife will provide a full range of midwifery care, including health education, social care and advice to women with the maternity service throughout the geographical area. Your sphere of practice encompasses provision of care to the women and babies during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
The care provided will be to the women/pregnant people and their babies in the community, midwife led, consultant led units, antenatal clinic and ante/postnatal wards as well as transitional care. Continuity of carer will be offered according to the service model and within the better births model. This role will involve on-call commitments where applicable and dependent on area of work.
The midwife will act as a support for students and other members of staff. The midwife will work autonomously within the trust in line with departmental guidelines and in accordance with the NMC Standards of proficiency for midwives, always ensuring safe and individualised care.

Qualifications
* Bachelors (BSc) Degree in Midwifery or equivalent Registered and practising midwife
* Practice assessor or prepared to work towards Foundation in patient experience course
Experience
* Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the service including working within the community setting.
* Substantive experience in area of special interest ie antenatal, postnatal, labour care, community
* Experience of managing complaints or feedback.
Technical Skills
* Able to mentor students
* Keyboard skills and ability to use IT equipment and associated maternity database.
* Competent and able to provide midwifery care in all areas
* Articulate with excellent communication skills
* IT literate – confident with Excel, powerpoint.
* Confident to have challenging conversations.
