About Us

We’re the UK fire family’s charity, providing timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families, helping them to adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges to adapt to conditions, injuries and illness and to transition to life after service.

We’re now recruiting for an Exercise Therapist to join the Physical Services team at our rehabilitation centre in Penrith, Cumbria, on a part time basis for up to a year.

About the Role

You will be part of a multi professional team of clinicians working collaboratively to meet an individual’s needs and help them reach their goals through a holistic approach.

With access to state-of-the-art gym and rehabilitation equipment, as well as digital technology, you will deliver rehabilitation programmes through both one to one and group work, remotely and face to face.

You will be responsible for delivering evidence-based rehabilitation sessions—both 1:1 and group‑based, delivered face‑to‑face and digitally—tailored to the individual needs, abilities, and goals of each service user. Working collaboratively with physiotherapists you will design, implement, and progress personalised rehabilitation programmes, track progress, adapt plans as required and ensure goals remain achievable and relevant.

You will also provide education and coaching to support the self‑management of common health conditions, helping service users achieve their rehabilitation goals and improve their overall quality of life.

About You

To be successful, you will:

* Have a degree in a Sports or Exercise related discipline with elements of at least two of the following: Exercise physiology, exercise psychology, exercise for special populations, health promotion, principles of training
* Be able to demonstrate your continued professional development appropriate to the role
* Have experience developing and delivering therapeutic exercise programmes for individuals with a range of physical, neurological, or long‑term health conditions.
* Experience leading both one‑to‑one and group exercise sessions, including land‑based and aquatic environments.
* Competence in identifying red flags and contraindications, adapting exercise delivery to ensure service user safety, and raising clinical concerns to a Physiotherapist (or appropriate clinician) as appropriate.
* Comprehensive knowledge of common health conditions and their impact on physical activity, with the proven ability to deliver rehabilitation that safely accounts for the complexities of cardiovascular health, obesity, and mental wellbeing.
