Job Details Grade: 7E Hourly Rate: £18.69 - £20.42 Salary: £17055.34 - £18633.96 per annum Contract Duration: Permanent Role Purpose As a member of the Social Work Justice Service, you will fulfil the Council’s statutory obligation to the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1995 and any other relevant legislation The post holder will provide group and 1:1 guidance and supervision in the delivery of reparative work to individuals subject to Unpaid Work and Fiscal Work Orders within the Greenhouse Project. This will be in accordance with National Outcomes and Standards, SSSC Codes of Practice, NHS Health Improvement and Scottish Borders Council Community Food Growing Strategy and Climate Action Plans. The post holder will work positively as part of the Justice Service to support the delivery of the Greenhouse Project, adhering to health and safety legislation, ensuring the effective management of resources, and complying with all relevant policies, best practice and procedures. The post holder will work as part of a team, to support those on Community Payback Orders to improve their skills. They will use a strengths-based, trauma informed approach to make use of learning opportunities, to support long-term change and reduce re-offending. This post is being recruited as a protected characteristics post, to provide a female supervisor for female-only groups. However, the post holder will also additionally work with male service users. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES To lead groups of people undertaking Unpaid Work, individual placement, or volunteers on a sustainable food growing project. Working outdoors, on a site incorporating greenhouses, allotment ground, planters, outbuildings and meadow area. To be responsible for the group work output, ensuring individual participation in allocated tasks and the production of good quality products for community distribution. To balance the demands of a busy sustainable food (vegetables) / herb (fresh and dried) / flowers (native perennials) / seed producing project timeously. To support the Greenhouse Coordinator to devise and implement a growing schedule for the year, in line with council sustainability and environmental goals. To adapt project work plans to fit variable weathers, group size and time of year. To be responsible for the Health and Safety of others, applying and monitoring safe systems of work and the provision of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and ensuring the correct use, cleaning and storing of tools. To attend and participate in team meetings and identified training. To advocate for re-use, repurposing and repair. To use eco-friendly and sustainable food-growing methods to support the bioregion and local circular economy. To promote health, wellbeing and respect for the environment within the group work delivery. To communicate issues/ concerns to line-manager. To be able to work independently and follow line-management guidance, communicating any issues as they arise. To work with people with complex needs, trauma histories, substance misuse issues and limited work experience. To be responsive to different learning styles and abilities. To uphold professional standards and work to the statutory requirements of the Justice Service. To complete required IT administration, record keeping, case-noting and email correspondence daily. All service user information must be recorded timeously on MOSAIC. Essential A good standard of experience in working with others to instruct and direct as part of a team. A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post. * If you have a disability which precludes you from holding a drivers licence, Scottish Borders Council will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability.
