The Role

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, proactive and driven individual to work as our Group Health, Safety & Environment Manager.

This is a leadership role with responsibility for developing Health, Safety and Environmental standards, and ensuring that they are embedded within the organisation. You will be responsible for setting the strategic framework for the management of these standards and for defining and delivering against objectives that enable both the achievement of these standards and continuous improvement. You will be a provider of information, giving technical guidance on all Health, Safety and Environmental matters, identifying and advising on current and future requirements and ensuring that systems, policies and processes are in place to support the continuing development of a HSE culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Assists, plans and implements safety policies and procedures as defined by the Management of Health at Work Regulation 1999.
* Assists, plans and implements Environmental policies and procedures as defined by the ISO 14001 standard.
* Advises Corporate Director of Health and Safety on any safety/environmental/health concerns and ensure preventative actions are implemented.
* Keep up to date with relevant health and safety law and assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations to our industry.
* Conducts post incident investigations and prepares report identifying possible incident causes and hazards for use by colleagues and the Plant Managers.
* Performs HS&E surveys and inspections, then prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
* Observe HS&E regulations, and set the standard on all sites by wearing all required safety equipment.
* Prepare applicable HS&E reports as necessary.
* Assist in the development and presentation of relevant HS&E training.
* Assist in development, evaluation and upgrading of HS&E programs, e.g. corporate 'Toolbox Talks'
* Deploy the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards, influencing senior management and driving safety and environmental leadership through line management to achieve excellent sustainable results
* Lead the SHE teams responsible in delivering Operational Safety, Process Safety and Environment results.
* Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, providing advice on national SHE legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies
* Ensure that all measures necessary are taken to comply with the COMAH regulations.
* Drive safety and environment risk assessment and conducting trend analysis from incidents, safe behaviour observations and deep compliance audits which lead to developing and/implementing appropriate controls
* Lead the World-class Manufacturing (WCM) Safety Pillar in accordance with Manufacturing Excellence requirements
* Support, monitor and work closely with the Occupational Health programme to ensure compliance with legislation and Unilever policy, standards and improvement programme.
* Reduce the site's environmental impact in the areas of COD, hazardous & non ‐ hazardous waste, SOx & CO2 emissions and water & energy consumption
* Assist the site leader to develop and lead the internal crisis committees and safety committee; supporting in leading serious incident investigation and analysis
* Develop and deploy internal SHE auditing and inspection systems, participate in audits of other Unilever organisations as required
* Identify training needs and assist in delivery of training programmes

Person Specification

* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety; or related field; or three to five years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing facility.
* Extensive experience operating at a senior level within SHE contributing to the leadership teams strategic objectives
* Strong leadership skills with shown experience managing, developing and coaching a team
* Strong communicator, with demonstrated experience influencing at all levels
* Change agent, focused on continuous improvement with demonstrated results in driving the SHE agenda
* Strong aptitude for solving complex problems
* Demonstrated experience in driving behavioural safety with tangible results
* NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety
* Working knowledge of COMAH regulations – ideally from Upper Tier COMAH environment, lower tier minimum
* Chartered member or working towards becoming a chartered member of IOSH
* Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
* High organisational and problems solving skills. In the habit of working in a busy and complex environment, staying clam under pressure.
* This position requires strong negotiation/influencing skills.
* Knowledge of and ability to implement lean initiatives.
* Excellent computer software skills, including Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Office.

Additional Information:

You will work at all four sites in the UK, and support new projects and developments in the UK and EU.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £65,000.00-£75,000.00 per year
