Salary: £84 - £110 per day (depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a committed and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a secondary school environment in Gateshead. This is a highly rewarding role where you’ll play a vital part in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Support students with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
Assist in delivering tailored interventions to support emotional regulation and social development.
Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to manage behaviour and engagement in the classroom.
Promote a positive, safe, and structured learning environment.
Act as a mentor and role model, building strong and trusting relationships with pupils.
Help implement individual support plans and monitor progress.
Job Requirements:
Experience working with secondary-aged students with SEMH or behavioural needs.
Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
Calm, empathetic, and resilient nature.
Ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
Relevant qualifications or training in behaviour management or mental health (desirable).
Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply through GSL Education).
Positive references from university placements or previous school experience.
