Role Overview
We are looking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer to carry out the Food Safety/Standards and Health and Safety functions within the service. This is a career graded role so the candidate can either be a Graduate Environmental Health Officer or an experienced Environmental Health Officer specialising in Food Safety. Experienced Food Environmental Health Officers need to be a registered Environmental Health Practitioner with the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health and need to be suitably qualified in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice to do the food specialism. Graduate Environmental Health Officers need to be on a pathway to achieve professional registration. You will work in the Commercial Team carrying out Food and Health and Safety duties.
Key Responsibilities
* To carry out programmed food hygiene and food standards inspections in accordance with the Food Law Code of Practice
* To apply and enforce the requirements of premises subject to approval
* To carry out food sampling and investigations
* Working with stakeholders such as UKHSA to investigate infectious disease notifications
* To investigate Food and/or Health and Safety complaints/service requests or accident reports
* To administer a range of interventions and enforcement sanctions in line with statute and council policies and processes
* To undertake work to investigate breaches of legislation, in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act
Key Requirements
* A degree in Environmental Health
* Good knowledge of Food Hygiene, Food Standards and Health and Safety legislation and its application.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively advise and support senior colleagues and businesses.
* Excellent organisational skills will be needed to manage a diverse and busy workload.
