Lifting Gear Inspection Technician ( Onshore / Offshore )
Multi-discipline Inspection Technician required to join our talented team based here in Aberdeen.
Please note that this role will be predominantly onshore based at our base in Bridge of Don, Aberdeen with occasional offshore/site trips (potentially up to 70 days pa).
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
Responsible for the completion of statutory thorough examinations of lifting equipment, NDT inspections, load testing & use of Rope Access techniques as required if trained to do so. All works to be completed in accordance with all relevant legislative, client & company standards, while applying Centurion’s core values to all activities. Ability to successfully deliver works as part of a team or individually, maintaining good communications with both clients & colleagues & within agreed timescales.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Act safely, remain professional & apply technical knowledge while expanding competencies.
2. Carry out statutory thorough examinations on lifting equipment in accordance with all relevant standards, utilizing Rope Access techniques when required.
3. Perform NDT works where qualified & as required, in accordance with all relevant standards.
4. Carry out load testing utilizing test rig, known weights or water bags as required, in line with Centurion or client procedures.
5. Actively look to ‘problem solve’ whilst on the job.
6. Guide & mentor other inspectors where experience allows.
7. Only carry out inspections & testing of equipment within assigned competencies & qualifications.
8. Successfully support or lead inspection scopes as required, liaising with the customer & Centurion office staff.
9. Create all job specific Centurion documents as required & submit in a timely manner, ensuring details are correct & are signed by client.
10. Manifesting of company equipment, including reporting of any damaged or missing items & preparation of goods for backload.
11. To report on the condition of all inspected items through visual or NDT methods using the Centurion reporting system in a clear & concise manner, ensuring all details are correct.
12. To formally report all defects/indications found in a timely manner at the end of each shift; Or where the defect poses an immediate danger, verbally report immediately with follow up formal written report.
13. Report any safety issues/incidents, conflicts or major defects found on critical equipment to client and Centurion focal points as soon as possible.
14. Prepare on site risk assessments & raise required permits prior to commencing work.
15. Ensure worksite is kept in a safe condition & left tidy at the end of each shift.
16. Attend all safety meetings/briefing as required by Centurion or the client.
17. Attend & complete all training courses or inductions as required by Centurion or the client – these may be online or in person.
18. Worldwide travel to client sites & assets as required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and certification:
1. LEEA Entry Certificate.
2. MPI – ASNT or PCN L2.
3. DPI – ASNT or PCN L2.
4. ET – ASNT or PCN L2.
5. UT– ASNT or PCN L2.
6. IRATA Level 1 (Rope Access Technicians Only).
7. HNC/HND in technical subject, Modern Apprenticeship/NVQ Level 3 in technical subject.
8. Further LEEA Qualifications.
9. Further NDT techniques such as UT 3.1/3.2, 3.8/3.9 & VT – CSWIP or PCN L2.
10. Crane Inspection Training – LEEA or NSL Modules.
11. Working towards or willing to obtain above qualifications.
12. (Proven relevant work experience at a comparable level may be accepted in the absence of formal qualifications at this level).
13. Full UK Driving licence (if position involves driving a company vehicle, licence must allow driving of manual vehicles).
Knowledge:
1. Sound basis of knowledge in a range of Equipment within competence.
2. Knowledge of all standard NDT practices & repair processes.
3. Knowledge of advanced NDT techniques & their application.
4. Ability to carry out thorough examinations, load testing & NDT inspections in a methodical & diligent manner.
5. IT Literate.
6. Working knowledge of all Microsoft programmes including Visio.
7. Working knowledge of Motion Kinetic.
8. Ability to read design drawings.
Experience:
1. Variety of NDT Work Scopes.
2. Lifting Equipment Inspections.
3. Crane Inspection – capable of conducting Crane NDT/LOLER Inspections/load tests.
4. Minimum of 3 years spent working within the industry related to lifting equipment & NDT.
5. General knowledge of lifting equipment & its operating environment.
6. General knowledge of the application of NDT techniques.
7. Wire Rope Spooling, Socketing, MRT & Pressure Lubrication.
8. Inspection & Load Testing of Subsea lifting equipment such as Dive Systems & ROV Launch & Recovery Systems.
9. Hull Thickness Gauging.
10. Pipe Thickness Gauging.
