Two permanent posts available.

Location: Biggar High School and Lesmahagow High School
Hours: 35 hours per week.
Work Pattern: Monday - Thursday 8am - 4:30pm and Friday 8am - 1:30pm.
Hourly Rate: £19.96 - £20.53 per hour.

Support Services provides a quality service to pupils and teaching staff throughout South Lanarkshire. There are 17 Learning Communities each of which comprises a secondary school, its associated primary schools and schools for children with additional support needs (ASN). In total, there are 17 secondary schools, 126 primary schools and 8 ASN schools.

We require two Technician Team Leaders (Science). One post will be based in Biggar High School within the Biggar Learning Community and the other post will be based in Lesmahagow High School within the Lesmahagow Learning Community.

As a Technician Team Leader (Science) you will co-ordinate and manage the Learning Community Technician Team to provide professional and specialist support and advice to schools within the Learning Community.

You will be required to lead the team of Technicians within the school in the provision of curricular support to the science, A/V and technical curriculum as well as carrying out the full range of duties relevant to your particular discipline in Science:

* Set up and support safe use of science labs.

* Order, store and maintain all classroom PPE.

* Order, store and prepare chemicals in line with COSHH guidelines. Be competent in chemical handling and have good knowledge of making up standard molar solutions.

* Have a good knowledge of all practical aspects of biology, chemistry and physics from S1 to advanced higher. Be confident setting up experiments and demonstrating to classes.

* Provide advice to teaching staff on the safe and correct use of chemicals and equipment in particular supporting student and probationer teachers.

* Have good problem-solving skills to devise or adapt experiments in line with budget constraints.

* Be able to undertake basic repairs to science equipment in line with electrical safety legislation.

* Undertake portable electrical testing yearly and visually inspect equipment before each use by pupils.

* Provide advice and assistance to advanced higher pupils when planning and carrying out their projects.

* Plan ahead for daily, monthly and yearly events in the science curriculum to ensure smooth running of courses, stock availability and preparation time. Coordinate the rotation of subject topics to avoid conflictions over resourses.

* Trial and adapt experiments to fit curricular changes.

* Support STEM clubs and extra-curricular activities.

You will report to the Support Services Coordinator for the Learning Community.

You will focus on your team’s strengths and development requirements and meet the needs of the service by effectively delegating and prioritising work, thus ensuring that service delivery is in line with policies and procedures.

Experience of working in a school or relevant environment is required.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to provide a high level of customer care.

You should be experienced in the use of IT and in particular with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

You will be flexible, adaptable and able to work in a school laboratory, on your own and as part of a team and you will be able to support teaching staff within the classroom.
