We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Payroll & Bookkeeping Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping and payroll services to a portfolio of clients across various sectors. The role involves maintaining financial records, processing payroll, and assisting with VAT returns
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping:
* Maintain accurate financial records for clients using accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
* Process invoices, receipts, payments, and bank reconciliations.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC deadlines.
* Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end financial statements.
* Liaise with clients to gather documentation and resolve queries.
Payroll:
* Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients.
* Ensure compliance with PAYE, National Insurance, pensions (Auto Enrolment), and statutory payments.
* Submit RTI (Real Time Information) reports to HMRC.
* Prepare and distribute payslips and payroll reports.
* Handle starters, leavers, and changes to employee details.
* Assist with P60s, P45s, and other payroll-related documentation.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Proven experience in bookkeeping and payroll within an accountancy practice or similar environment.
* Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and VAT rules.
* Proficiency in accounting and payroll software.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Ability to manage multiple client deadlines effectively.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable:
* AAT Level 3 or above, or equivalent qualification.
* Experience with cloud-based accounting systems.
* Familiarity with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme).
* Knowledge of MTD (Making Tax Digital) requirements.
