UXO Consultant
We are looking for an experienced and driven UXO Consultant to lead the development of a new and exciting UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) survey service. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in building and shaping a specialist service offering, working across a variety of projects nationwide.
You will be responsible for developing internal capability, training staff, and ensuring the successful delivery of high‑quality UXO risk mitigation services. This role requires a strong technical background, leadership capability, and a passion for maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
* Designing and delivering UXO/EOD training programmes (classroom and field‑based)
* Assessing competency levels and developing structured training plans
* Establishing UXO survey methodologies, procedures, and best practices
* Leading the development of a new UXO survey team, including mentoring staff
* Supporting recruitment and selection of UXO personnel
* Providing technical guidance on UXO risk assessments and mitigation strategies
* Overseeing field operations, including surveys and clearance works
* Ensuring compliance with legislation, health & safety standards, and industry guidance
* Producing and reviewing technical reports, risk assessments, and method statements
* Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders
* Supporting business development activities and client presentations
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
* Formal UXO/EOD qualifications or a military EOD background
* Strong experience in UXO risk assessment and survey methodologies
* IMAS EOD Level 3+ (or equivalent)
* Proven experience delivering technical training
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
* Strong problem‑solving ability and attention to detail
* Knowledge of UK UXO regulatory frameworks (e.g. CIRIA)
* Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
It is desirable, that you also have some or all of the following:
* Experience establishing or growing a new technical service line
* Membership of relevant professional bodies
* Experience with geophysical survey equipment and data interpretation
* Project management experience
