Job Description:
Role Overview
This is a varied role working across a multitude of observability tools to ensure smooth operation of Liquidnet’s Production trading platforms and underlying infrastructure supporting them. The role is responsible for early identification of issues, correlating multiple issues across hardware and software, and ensuring clear runbooks are created and followed at all times.
Liquidnet employs an offshore ‘Network Operational Centre’ (NOC) in India, which performs ‘eyes on glass’ monitoring of systems and raises alerts to relevant teams as per runbook definitions. This role provides oversight and guidance to the offshore team and is embedded within the wider Production Support organization to provide real-time statistics and input towards root cause analysis, especially during major incidents. Input is critical during major incident bridges and post-mortems to ensure continuous improvement in system observability.
Currently, Liquidnet operates on-premises, but over the next two years, a major transformation program will move all non-latency-sensitive applications to the Cloud. Experience in observability across both setups is crucial. Additionally, a consolidation project is underway across the observability tooling stack within the TP ICAP group, which may impact Liquidnet’s tooling and practices.
Furthermore, there is a strong push to automate processes at Liquidnet. The role involves automating smoke checks and manual workflows. The ideal candidate will have scripting and automation skills combined with a strong desire to reduce TOIL and repetitive low-value tasks.
Role Responsibilities
* Oversee the offshore NOC daily operations alongside the manager in New York
* Monitor tooling, ensuring robust design and adherence to documentation standards
* Participate actively in incident bridges, aiding in root cause identification with real-time updates and monitoring
* Contribute to post-mortems to evaluate monitoring quality and close identified gaps quickly
* Onboard new workflows and systems into the observability stack, including building bespoke solutions where needed
* Work with DevOps and Deployment teams to ensure system changes are aligned with observability standards
* Contribute to Automation and AI projects, focusing on automating post-deployment checks and smoke testing to minimize manual effort
* Occasional weekend work during major upgrades and out-of-hours testing may be required
Experience / Competences
* At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a SysOps or NOC team, preferably within a financial institution
* Knowledge of Cloud infrastructure and application monitoring, ideally with AWS certifications (Cloud Practitioner, SysOps Administrator, or similar)
* Proven automation and scripting experience (PERL, Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
* Basic support experience in Unix/Linux environments
* Experience supporting Windows Server environments
* Network troubleshooting skills, including firewall and routing issues
* Track record of implementing and maintaining robust monitoring solutions in complex environments
* Proactive, persistent problem-solver with the ability to handle complex issues
* Willingness to challenge the status quo and implement positive changes
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholder expectations effectively
* Knowledge of OTEL and STATSD protocols
* Understanding of DevOps principles and workflows, including collaboration with development teams
* Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, etc.)
* Experience supporting message-based architectures (Solace, Tibco, MQ, etc.)
* Experience with industry-standard monitoring tools (ITRS, Prometheus, etc.)
* Working knowledge of SNMP and iLo protocols
* AWS-certified SysOps Administrator
* Basic understanding of FIX protocol and workflows
* Experience with MSSQL, Oracle, or Sybase databases
* Experience working within an ITIL framework, preferably with ITIL Foundation certification
