Salary: £34,434 to £35,412 per annum (pro‑rata £27,919 to £28,712) – 30 hours per week. Contract: Permanent. Location: Carlisle, Cumbria House, 117 Botchergate, Carlisle, CA1 1RD.
Cumberland Council is recruiting a Prevention Officer (Youth Justice Service) to support children aged 10‑18 with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health difficulties across Carlisle and Workington.
Responsibilities
* Work within the multi‑agency Youth Justice Service to deliver effective prevention and targeted intervention, aiming to reduce offending and re‑offending.
* Assist with the Ministry of Justice Turnaround Programme and develop the Cumberland Youth Justice Service prevention offer.
* Carry out assessments and work with children to develop plans and maintain accurate written records.
* Engage children and their families to prevent offending, using a strength‑based approach and fostering proactive, creative engagement.
* Deliver the Turnaround Programme and the Youth Justice prevention offer, ensuring positive outcomes for children.
Qualifications
* Experience working with and engaging children and families with complex needs.
* Experience managing challenging behaviour and complex issues.
* Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System and Early Help processes.
* Commitment to early intervention and willingness to think creatively to engage children.
* Capacity to undertake a DBS check and work with children under the Children’s Barred List.
