The post holder is responsible for providing high-quality patient care at all levels in the NICU, ensuring evidence-based practice and high standards.
Responsibilities include ensuring adequate staffing with appropriate skill mix, managing and supervising care and treatment of infants with complex needs, and overseeing the correct use of life-supporting intensive care equipment.
The Band 7 will also be responsible for staff deployment and training, liaising with other agencies, and ensuring adherence to trust policies and procedures.
The post holder must manage their time flexibly to fulfill roles such as clinical coordinator and unit manager, including periods of supernumerary work for specialty roles and regional neonatal service functions.
Key duties include developing, implementing, and evaluating resource-effective nursing care, maintaining high standards, and fostering a family-centered/Family Integrated Care (FICare) approach.
Effective communication with multi-agency teams, external network units, neonatal transport teams, and other professionals is essential.
The role supports the delivery of objectives set by the directorate business plan, Neonatal North East Central London Network (NCEL ODN), and other neonatal care agendas.
It involves coordinating and monitoring activity to ensure appropriate nursing skill mix and capacity management, reviewing workload, and ensuring safety and proper skill utilization.
The post may act on behalf of the lead nurse and attend relevant meetings.
