Join a Specialist Consultancy – Restoring Island Ecosystems & Protecting Seabirds
HAR is a growing ecological consultancy with nationally recognised expertise in seabird protection, island restoration, and invasive mammal management.
We work across Scotland, the UK, and internationally at the intersection of clean energy, conservation, and ecological restoration — delivering high-quality science alongside practical, field-led solutions in some of the UK’s most distinctive coastal environments.
Our work includes:
* Seabird monitoring and colony protection
* Invasive mammal eradication and biosecurity
* Habitat restoration
* Ecological support for offshore wind and infrastructure
The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Health, Safety & Emergency Preparedness Lead who is equally comfortable developing robust safety systems and applying them in the field.
You will report to HAR’s Technical Director (CMIOSH), providing access to experienced leadership, professional support, and structured career development within a growing consultancy
This is a field-first leadership role — supporting teams on offshore vessels, remote islands, and coastal terrain — while also taking ownership of HSE planning, RAMS development, and continuous improvement of safety systems across the business.
You’ll work closely with internal teams, clients, contractors, local communities, and NGO partners to ensure safety is well understood, proportionate, and aligned among all stakeholders.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Developing and maintaining HSE plans, safe systems of work, and project-specific RAMS
* Supporting projects from planning through to field delivery
* Leading emergency preparedness and response planning
* Managing the training matrix and competency framework
* Delivering inductions, briefings, and ongoing safety leadership
* Collaborating with clients, partners, and stakeholders to align safety expectations
* Supporting teams in identifying hazards and implementing practical, field-ready controls
* Ensuring compliance with UK HSE legislation, offshore wind standards, and industry best practice
Where You’ll Be Working:
* Office and home-based (hybrid) working, supporting planning, reporting, and HSE system development
* Offshore vessels and over-water operations
* Remote islands and exposed coastal environments
* Steep terrain, cliffs, and challenging access locations
* Variable weather and extended field deployments
About You:
You’re an experienced HSE professional — or a strong field operator ready to step up — who understands that effective safety comes from good planning, clear communication, and collaboration.
You’ll bring:
* Experience in environmental field operations, offshore wind, marine, or construction.
* Strong capability in developing HSE plans and RAMS
* Confidence working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
* A pragmatic, enabling approach to safety
* Strong communication skills — approachable, credible, and solutions-focused
Desirable Qualifications & Competencies:
* NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma
* Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH / GradIOSH / CMIOSH)
* Knowledge of Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards
* IRATA International certification (Level 2/3 preferred)
* First aid/emergency response qualifications
Why Join HAR:
This is an opportunity to join a specialist, purpose-driven consultancy where your work directly contributes to restoring ecosystems and protecting globally important seabird populations.
You’ll help shape how safety is delivered across complex, real-world projects — supported by experienced leadership and with clear opportunities for professional growth and progression.
