The chalk streams of East Yorkshire are the most northerly in Europe and whilst they contain many unique ecosystems they also face a multitude of threats. This is an exciting opportunity for the Project Officer to build on the work carried out by the Trust over recent years, with several projects in progress and a number about to begin. Projects are varied and include re-meandering work and habitat restoration, community engagement with schools and partner organisations and citizen science monitoring. The Project Officer will also support the Trust’s efforts to protect native wildlife by assisting with our mink monitoring and control programme and by carrying out water vole surveys. The successful candidate will work with farmers, contractors, partner organisations, volunteers and other East Yorkshire Rivers Trust staff to deliver a programme of fully funded work covering barriers to fish migration, Natural Flood Management (NFM) and river restoration projects. The Trust is also involved in wider wetland creation and restoration looking at ponds, scrapes and lakes. This post is within the EYRT area covering The River Hull Catchment, Gypsey Race, the streams of the West Wolds and into the Derwent Catchment to the north. The Project Officer will manage all aspect of the projects, from inception to delivery (with support from the operations manager), ensuring they are delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard. Previous experience of delivering practical environmental projects, especially habitat focussed ones, is therefore preferred however we will consider applications from candidates with relevant transferable skills and/or experience. The Project Officer will seek to maximise project benefits and efficiencies through collaboration, working closely with other Trust staff, partners and key stakeholders across the catchment to identify additional funding and partnership opportunities. The Project Officer may be required to attend talks and events to promote the work of the Trust. The role will be home based but will work across the EYRT area. The role entails a high degree of outdoor practical work, project management, monitoring and evaluation, and working with contractors whilst out on site. The post holder will be flexible, with occasional evening and weekend working. The post-holder should work well both alone and as part of a team of staff and volunteers.
