Chief Nursing, Midwifery and AHP Information Officer

The CNMAHPIO serves as the key informatics advisor for Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professionals, working closely with the CIO, CCIO, Chief Nurse, and other senior leaders to advance the Trusts digital strategy.

This role provides expert guidance on digital solutions that support frontline clinical practice and enhance care delivery. The CNMAHPIO offers professional leadership in the development and implementation of digital systems, ensuring high standards of care, safety, and patient experience.

The post holder will lead digital champions across clinical divisions, promote digital literacy through staff education programmes, and act as a clinical ambassador for digital innovation. Additionally, the CNMAHPIO contributes to regional digital transformation efforts within the North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS).

Main duties of the job

The CNMAHPIO will provide strategic clinical digital leadership across the Trust, ensuring the safe, effective, and user-centred adoption of digital technologies to support patient care and professional practice.

Key responsibilities include:

Digital Clinical Leadership: Lead nursing, midwifery, and AHP colleagues in the safe and effective use of digital systems. Act as the clinical voice in digital transformation programmes.

Digital Literacy & Workforce Support: Design and implement Trust-wide digital literacy and education programmes, ensuring clinical staff are confident and competent in using IT systems.

Clinical Safety & Governance: Serve as a designated Clinical Safety Officer. Advise on IT system safety, clinical risk, and best practice. Promote a culture of error reporting and digital safety.

Strategy, Policy & Innovation: Contribute to the Trusts digital strategy, supporting innovation in patient care, quality improvement, and operational efficiency. Participate in national and regional CNIO/CNMAHPIO forums.

Patient Advocacy: Champion the use of digital tools that empower patients, support transparency, and enable shared decision-making.

Professional Leadership: Represent nursing, midwifery, and AHP interests at senior leadership and programme boards.

Training & Development: Support mentoring, coaching, and professional development for staff engaged in clinical informatics. Promote digital skills as a core competency in clinical practice.

Job responsibilities

This role supports the design, development, implementation, and optimisation of clinical systems, drives digital literacy, and leads cultural change in how digital technology is adopted and used across the organisation. The postholder acts as a key influencer at local, regional, and national levels, ensuring digital innovations align with strategic NHS priorities and professional standards.

Main Responsibilities:

1.Strategic Digital Clinical Leadership

* Serve as the senior professional lead for digital transformation in nursing, midwifery, and AHP services.
* Collaborate with the CIO and CCIO to shape and deliver the organisations digital strategy.
* Ensure digital systems reflect clinical needs and enable safe, effective patient care.
* Deputise for senior leaders in meetings relating to digital clinical strategy.
* Provide leadership throughout the digital project lifecycle (design, testing, implementation, optimisation).
* Act as Clinical Safety Officer, advising on system safety and clinical risk.
* Lead on the delivery of Trust-wide projects.
* Identify and manage interdependencies across digital, clinical and operational projects.

3. Workforce & Digital Literacy Development

* Design and implement a comprehensive digital literacy education programme across all professional groups.
* Support continuous development of staff through mentoring, coaching, and training.
* Lead a team of information officers and digital champions, including super-users and floorwalkers.
* Promote adoption of new technologies through inclusive engagement and training.

4. Governance, Safety & Professional Standards

* Ensure digital solutions support evidence-based, ethical, and regulatory-compliant clinical practice.
* Advocate for transparent data use, patient access to information, and digital inclusion.
* Uphold and model compliance with the relevant professional codes.
* Encourage incident reporting and learning where IT contributes to clinical risk.
* Contribute to financial planning and benefits realisation for digital projects.
* Work with divisional leads to monitor digital-related budgets and efficiencies.
* Identify and deliver cost savings, quality improvements, and operational efficiencies via digital working.

6. Representation, Policy Influence & Stakeholder Engagement

* Act as a voice for nurses, midwives, and AHPs in strategic Trust forums and national CNIO/CNMAHPIO networks.
* Participate in regional and national digital initiatives (e.g., Frontline Digitisation, What Good Looks Like).
* Collaborate with IT suppliers, national bodies, and academic partners to support innovation and influence digital policy.
* Promote the Trusts I.CARE values across all clinical digital workstreams.


Person Specification


Qualifications & Registration

* Registered Nurse, Midwife or AHP with active NMC/HCPC registration
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Postgraduate qualification in informatics, leadership, or healthcare management


Experience

* Extensive clinical experience in a senior leadership role
* Proven experience leading digital transformation or EPR implementation


Knowledge and Skills

* Strong knowledge of clinical governance, digital safety, and NHS policy
* Understanding of the role of digital health in transformation
* Familiarity with national strategies (e.g. What Good Looks Like, Frontline Digitisation)
* Experience working at or influencing at Board level
* Ability to contribute to digital strategy, budget planning, and benefits realisation

£70,387 to £80,465 a yearper annum inclusive of HCAs
