Location: Uxbridge
Salary: £30, - £36,
Full-time | Permanent | on Site

We are currently supporting a well-established organisation within the education sector to recruit a Finance Officer to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong finance and payroll experience to play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of financial operations within a supportive and purpose-driven environment.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer will be responsible for delivering an accurate, efficient, and effective financial administration service. You will oversee key financial processes including payroll, purchase ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

This role offers variety and the opportunity to work across multiple finance functions while supporting wider administrative and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and update financial records using manual and computerised systems. Process monthly payroll using Sage, ensuring pension contributions, HMRC payments and other deductions are completed accurately. Oversee the purchase ledger process, ensuring invoices are recorded correctly and approved for payment. Manage banking procedures and monthly bank reconciliations. Administer petty cash and internal fund accounts. Monitor departmental budgets and produce monthly budget vs actual reports. Raise invoices and manage credit control, ensuring outstanding payments are followed up. Support VAT return preparation and year-end financial procedures. Maintain personnel payment records including overtime, expenses and supply staff payments. Manage payment systems used for incoming payments and reconcile these against accounts. Provide support and guidance to staff regarding payroll and finance queries.

About You

We are looking for a finance professional who is organised, detail-oriented, and confident working across multiple financial processes.

Essential requirements:

AAT qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Accounting, or equivalent finance experience. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a finance role within an office environment. Experience working with Sage 50 and Sage Payroll. Strong knowledge of purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and reconciliations. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and financial systems. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.

Desirable:

Previous experience working in an education or school environment.
