Role: Purchasing manager
Location: Halifax
As Purchasing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing the procurement activities and driving best practices, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services essential for the manufacturing processes. Overseeing daily activities of the purchasing department, including delegating tasks and supervising teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and execute purchasing strategies
• Work with Group Procurement Team to achieve Group Purchasing Goals
• Manage the Raw Material Purchasing Budget (circa £35m) in association with company purchasing policy
• Manage & develop the local Purchasing Team
• Negotiate with, and manage local suppliers on lead time, cost & payment terms
• Ensure inventory levels are kept in line with company guidelines and maintained to meet sales requirements
• Maintain accurate stock inventory records via company ERP system
• Maintain inventory pricing, ensuring accurate ‘Bill of Materials’ costing for the sales team
• Facilitate the preparation of monthly reports as required for the business
• Ensure the smooth delivery of raw materials from the satellite warehouses to meet production needs
• Manage quarterly stock takes, interrogating variance and validating the count
• Review supplier quality and service levels
• Occasional travel within the UK and Europe
• Ensure that Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental standards are adhered to including the requirements of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 and all matters relating to this are dealt with using the resources within the company.
• Ensure all relevant statements relating to FSC controlled wood, PEFC chain of custody and RSB Advanced Products are included, and standards upheld.
Key Skills/Experience Desired
• Proven experience in materials procurement, preferably in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience using procurement software and databases, SAP experience desirable.
• Degree or CIPS qualified or have significant relevant experience.
• Ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and business colleagues.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills – useful for negotiations
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
