Job Overview We are seeking to appoint Bank Chaplains who are enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced individuals. They will be part of the Trust-wide Chaplaincy Department of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The Chaplaincy Department provides pastoral, spiritual and religious care to patients, their relatives and carers and staff within the Trust. Your approach will be person-centred, and involve the delivery of spiritual, religious and pastoral care of patients, relatives, carers and staff of all faiths and beliefs. You will work with the Lead Chaplain and the current team of Chaplains and Trust Volunteers. You would have your main base at either Wexham Park or Frimley Park Hospital. Your bank role will involve working as a generic chaplain able to respond to the needs of people of all faiths and beliefs plus sharing in our 24-hour on-call, Rota; sharing in daytime weekday duties according to operational demands. Main duties of the job The Chaplaincy Department is responsible for facilitating the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of patients, staff, students and visitors of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust (FHFT) and for providing specialist knowledge and expertise in matters relating to spiritual and religious beliefs, experiences and practices. The post holder will contribute to an ecumenical and multi-faith team providing spiritual, religious and pastoral care for patients, relatives and staff in the FHFT and other areas that might be covered by service level agreements. The post holder will work with the Lead Chaplain, Head of Patient Experience and the team of Chaplains and Volunteers in facilitating the provision of care. The post holder will be required to work cross site according to operational needs. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Formal Theological Qualification or equivalent to degree level or equivalent In good standing with a faith or belief group as defined by the Network for Pastoral, Spiritual and Religious Care in Health Desirable criteria Member of the College of Health Care Chaplains and/or the Association for Hospice & Palliative Care Chaplains. Registered as a Board-Certified chaplain with the UK Board for Healthcare Chaplaincy. Postgraduate Certificate or higher in Healthcare Chaplaincy. Qualification in Clinical Pastoral Education Appropriately authorised, licensed, or commissioned for the role of healthcare chaplain. Experience Essential criteria Substantial, recent pastoral experience in a local faith/belief community setting or equivalent. Pastoral care of bereaved people Pastoral care of terminally ill people. Crisis work e.g. pastoral care following traumatic injury, death, and major incidents. Experience of training, supervising and managing volunteers. Desirable criteria Experience in Healthcare Chaplaincy. Pastoral care of staff under pressure Pastoral care of people bereaved of children and experience of death through pregnancy loss and neo-natal death. Experience of providing teaching on spiritual care to healthcare professionals. Experience of collaborative working in a diverse multi-faith/belief setting. Leadership Skills Working knowledge of faith and belief systems other than one’s own, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a diverse context. Desirable criteria Extensive knowledge and insight into pastoral, spiritual and religious care in a healthcare setting. Training and supervision skills. Volunteer management skills. Counselling skills. Special Requirements Essential criteria In good standing with an appropriate faith or belief group willing to formally endorse your role as a healthcare chaplain. Ability to take part in an on-call rota, seven days a week. Ability to work flexible hours. Physically fit e.g. able to walk from ward to ward for at least an hour at a time.
