Band 7-8A Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist


South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust

1 x 37.5 hours per week - Band 7/Band 8A depending on experience

Join a supportive, forward-thinking CAMHS team passionate about working collaboratively with young people and the adults around them.

We are looking to appoint an HPCP registered Senior Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist to join our MDT. Close collaboration with experienced colleagues will be encouraged, both within the service and across other agencies. Our work is guided by complex formulations, aiming to provide innovative, inclusive, high-quality evidence-based care. The trust values research and evaluation to support these aims.

This role involves working across the Wakefield District, with opportunities to see children in various community settings and within CAMHS bases. A flexible approach to travel is required.

This role currently meets the UK Visas and Immigration minimum requirements for sponsorship.

Main duties of the job

We seek a passionate and skilled Senior Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist to provide expert psychological assessments, complex formulations, and interventions tailored to individual needs.

Collaborative working is central, as you will be part of a specialist therapies MDT, working closely with other agencies and across CAMHS pathways. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.

Your responsibilities include providing consultation, delivering training, and supervision, as well as shaping service approaches to care and improvement.

We support professional growth through supervision, induction, and annual appraisals. You will maintain clinical records according to Trust policy.

Qualifications

* BAND 7: Honours Degree in Psychology, Doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, HCPC registration, appropriate safeguarding training, 2:1 minimum, eligible for chartered status.
* BAND 8A: Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, significant post-qualification experience, HCPC registration.


Skills and Knowledge

* Ability to travel within the Trust
* IT literacy
* Good psychometric assessment skills
* Experience in training and supervision (for Band 8A)
* Exceptional communication skills
* Empathy and therapeutic alliance skills
* Formulation of complex processes
* Knowledge of legislation relevant to practice


Physical Attributes

* Ability to meet the physical demands of the role


Experience

* BAND 7: Supervised clinical practice in NHS, experience with assessment, formulation, and intervention models.
* BAND 8A: Experience across care settings, working with diverse client groups, teaching, and supervision experience.


Training

* BAND 8A: Completion of formal training for clinical supervisor status.
