About the role

We are looking for motivated, team workers to support our faced paced busy Emergency Department as Patient Flow Coordinator
This post carries responsibility for the smooth flow of patients through the department. Provides comprehensive support to the Nurse in Charge of the Emergency Department to fulfil all administrative tasks and duties.
The Patient Flow Co-ordinator will be pro-active in alerting the Senior Clinical Staff to actual or potential increasing workload and actively seek solutions to maintain required performance against all elements of the Urgent and Emergency Care standards.
While working as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will be expected to use their own initiative.
Main duties
* To take calls from GP’s about assessment or admission of patients ascertaining which speciality the GP is wanting to speak with then transferring/conferencing the call with the relevant speciality doctors within the trust.
* To ensure where feasible, patients that require admission into the trust are allocated to the most appropriate ward/department for their care.
* Monitor A&E activity and waiting times using the symphony system, escalating to the Patient Flow Manager, out of hours, when patients are coming up to 12 hr breaching.
* To cover switchboard when needed to put the crash call out.
* Take bookings for the relative’s rooms out of hours and blocking out the relevant room on the outlook calendars and providing the swipe cards to enable the relatives to gain access, also collecting the swipe cards back into the office at around 11am over the weekend.
* Carry out general office duties including photocopying, faxing and scanning, disposing of confidential/sensitive material in the relevant bags, organising of the white display boards. To use, maintain handle and store equipment and materials efficiently, effectively and safely.
* To be flexible in covering short falls within the team to cover for colleague absences where able to.
* Participate in the general cleanliness and tidiness of your work environment.
* Maintain the bed management system on symphony acknowledging when a bed needs to be booked and marking the request to the relevant ward area that is requested for the patient.
Essential person specification requirements
Qualifications
* Some previous experience in Health Care and working in a hospital setting
* NVQ or equivalent
* Education to GCSE or equivalent level of education in Maths and English
Experience
* Previous NHS experience
* Previous experience of call handling in a customer service Environment.
* Experience of NHS IT systems
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent communications skills.
* Effective team player.
* Excellent organizational skills including ability to prioritise and manage own workload without direct supervision.
* Be able to adapt to fluctuating trends on a day to day basis.
