An excellent opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term, full time, Locally Employed Doctor to join the inpatient team at Stonebow mental health unit, Hereford. Stonebow has 3 wards: Cantilupe Ward – a 10‑bedded ward providing acute assessment and treatment services for people living with dementia; Jenny Lind Ward – an 8‑bedded ward providing acute assessment and treatment services for older people with a functional mental health condition; and Mortimer Ward – a 20‑bedded ward providing acute assessment and treatment services for working‑age adults with a mental health condition. There are 3 Consultant Psychiatrists across the 3 wards as well as Resident Doctor support. Each ward has a robust MDT comprising of Ward Managers, Deputy Ward Managers, Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Support Workers, Health Care Assistants, OT Lead, OT Assistants, a Physiotherapist, and an Administrator. The Stonebow unit was rebuilt in 2024 providing modern facilities and a bespoke environment for staff and patients.
Responsibilities
The post holder will provide clinical assessment and formulation of treatment plans, and liaise with the referrer (as appropriate) under the supervision of a consultant psychiatrist. This includes psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, mental state examinations, and prescription of appropriate treatments in line with NICE guidance. Work is undertaken with the multidisciplinary team and includes routine, urgent and emergency referrals. Provide timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress and discharge letters using Trust IT and clinical records system – training will be provided where needed. The candidate is expected to have flexibility in splitting time between all 3 wards in agreement with the ward consultant supervisor. Active commitment to delivering the Trust’s clinical governance agenda. This post does not carry out‑hours on‑call responsibilities.
