Job Title: Consultant Psychiatrist
Service Line: Male PICU
Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager
We are seeking an experienced full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to work at Cynet Hospital Bury Dunes, providing senior medical cover on our specialist Male PICU ward.
South Hampton Ward is a 12-bed male PICU accepting emergency and crisis admissions from various sources, including acute and prison services. The ward aims to deliver rapid interventions to help service users regain control and move to less restrictive settings or return home. The team is experienced in supporting deaf individuals, with staff trained in British Sign Language.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician, overseeing inpatient care, conducting audits, and ensuring compliance with GMC standards and other guidelines. Your expertise will drive treatment plans supported by a multidisciplinary team including a Specialty Doctor, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists. Main duties and responsibilities
1. Lead high-quality care provision for patients admitted to South Hampton Ward.
2. Act as a positive role model with a professional attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff.
3. Take responsibility for patient treatment plans alongside the multidisciplinary team.
4. Assess referrals and conduct mental state examinations.
5. Perform investigations, diagnosis, and treatment.
6. Conduct ward rounds, reviews, and audits.
7. Implement risk assessments, risk management, and clinical governance.
8. Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and attend hearings.
9. Liaise with the Ministry of Justice regarding patient transfers and leave approvals.
10. Maintain accurate patient records.
11. Ensure regular communication with the Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager.
12. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders.
13. Participate in academic meetings and adhere to CPD standards set by GMC, the Department of Health, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
14. Contribute to the telephone on-call rota.

Candidate requirements:
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent)
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12, and AC status
* Experience and knowledge in psychiatry
* Understanding of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related codes
* Excellent communication skills for assessment, treatment, and documentation
* Commitment to professional development
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
* Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
