About Us

Northgate is a vibrant, multi-cultural primary school situated very close to Crawley town centre. We are growing and currently have 550 children on roll including a maintained Nursery and Specialist Support Centre (SSC). The SSC is led by two Qualified Teachers of the Deaf and a team of specialist support assistants. In the SSC we currently have 15 Deaf pupils who are all part of a mainstream class. We support primarily in the classroom and offer additional support in the SSC as required.

Job Details

Salary: £29,540 - £32,061

Contract Type: Fixed term

Working Pattern: Part or full time

What You Need to Succeed

* We are seeking to appoint 2 Communication Support Workers (CSW), who have high expectations for Deaf children and are committed to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential in school.
* The ideal candidate must have achieved a minimum of level 3 BSL and be willing to work towards Level 6 BSL. Applicants will also need to be competent in English and mathematics.
* An ability to contribute to the planning and delivery of the school's BSL curriculum.
* An understanding that Deaf children can communicate in different ways. Some of our pupils use speech as their main form of communication, whilst others use British Sign Language.
* Previous experience of working in a similar position is desirable but not essential.
