Overview
To work within a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate a range of recovery and abstinence focused interventions for adults presenting at accident and emergency in Stockport because of substance misuse related issues. The post holder will provide intense interventions for frequent attenders at A&E, offer rapid access to treatment for patients, monitor presentations at Stepping Hill Hospital, offer opportunistic brief intervention to patients, and advise staff on management of adults presenting at hospital on a frequent basis.

Main duties
* Undertaking comprehensive assessments of need, individual therapeutic interventions, recovery co-ordination and referral to support services with a view to reducing overall attendance at A&E and subsequent inpatient admissions.
* Work primarily in the community service but also support Stepping Hill Hospital staff in planned discharge of patients admitted to medical and surgical wards.
* Provide clinical interventions supporting sustained recovery within an ambitious, outcome-focused culture promoting hope, empowerment and choice.
* Contribute to the service’s clinic responsibilities for alcohol and other substances (e.g. pre-detox bloods, support for community detoxification, BBV screening, clinic room checks, medicines management commensurate with the grade).

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Essential: RGN / RMN (including newly qualified and preceptorship nurses with further training and support available)
* Essential: Professional registration with NMC
* Desirable: Relevant training in specialist area
* Desirable: Training in sexual health/blood borne viruses
* Desirable: Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake this training
Experience
* Essential: Experience of assessing clients\' health and social care needs in a drug or alcohol setting
* Essential: The provision of advice and support on health and/or social issues
* Essential: Experience of working with individuals who have drug and/or alcohol problems
* Essential: Experience of providing support to vulnerable or socially excluded individuals/groups
