Job Description
As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, makes up one of the five services within Glasgow City Council and is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across the authority's nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.
As a Head of Service, you will lead the development and delivery of service excellence across our schools within a defined geographical area. Your leadership will be pivotal in achieving our aims and objectives, ensuring that every child and young person receives the highest quality education.
You will be responsible for leading, developing, and delivering a strategic approach for various functional activities aimed at raising attainment and achievement, particularly for those experiencing the greatest levels of deprivation. You will also lead quality improvement initiatives within the Primary sector, fostering an environment of continuous improvement and excellence.
As part of the senior management team, you will work to improve outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow, ensuring resources are aligned with the Council's commitment to improved school performance and reducing the attainment gap.
You must demonstrate an in-depth understanding of education services and have a proven track record of leading and managing at a senior level the strategic direction of similar services.
To succeed, you must bring leadership, energy, vision, and strong stakeholder management. You should be an innovative, dynamic thinker focused on driving service improvements to achieve Council objectives and outcomes.
Crucially, you must have a passion for ensuring children and young people in Glasgow receive high-quality education that provides skills for learning, life, and work.
You should be educated to at least degree level in a relevant discipline and eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme is essential upon appointment, along with eligibility for registration with GTCS and SSSC. Successful candidates will need to pay for PVG membership or scheme checks. This post is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
