We’re looking for a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Peterlee. The school provides a nurturing environment for pupils with autism and complex learning needs, focusing on personalised learning, emotional wellbeing, and independence.
What you’ll be doing
* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism across different key stages
* Assisting with communication and interaction strategies, including visual aids, PECS, or Makaton
* Supporting pupils in managing sensory needs and building emotional regulation
* Working alongside teachers and therapists to create structured, engaging lessons
* Encouraging social skills and confidence through play, creativity, and positive routines
We’re looking for someone who
* Has experience supporting pupils with autism or SEND (school-based or alternative settings)
* Brings patience, empathy, and resilience to every situation
* Understands the importance of structure and routine in autism support
* Is open to learning new strategies and taking part in training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
