The role:
The Financial Planning and Analysis Director is responsible for managing financial information, developing critical financial insights, and driving communication and education across the business—supporting the development and build-out of SJP's FP&A capabilities. They will be a hands-on leader with a strategic mindset, developing and driving the Group's financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis, providing actionable insights that shape strategic decisions across the business. Acting as a key partner to senior leadership, the role involves translating complex financial data into clear narratives, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities that support business growth, efficiency, and value creation. This position plays a central role in embedding financial insight into decision-making across the organization, setting high standards for analytical excellence and commercial acumen.
What you'll be doing:
1. Leadership & Oversight: Lead and manage the Financial Board Partnering, Data, and Financial Planning and Analysis teams, fostering a positive culture that supports employees. Build effective relationships with the Finance Division Senior Leadership Team, ExCo, and Board members to coordinate activities supporting corporate objectives.
2. Planning & Forecasting: Develop and oversee the business planning process aligned with strategic planning, implementing systems, procedures, and controls that produce timely, reliable, and accurate information and forecasts for decision-making. Collaborate with CFOs, Investor Relations, and other stakeholders to develop strategic plans, budgets, and reports. Track and communicate performance against targets, aiming to improve financial outlook.
3. Strategic Support: Provide thought leadership on resource allocation and critical business decisions. Drive scenario testing to inform transformation priorities and stress test financial resilience under market conditions.
4. Target Setting: Work with stakeholders to set and monitor financial targets and performance metrics.
5. Communication: Lead dissemination of financial insights across management, boards, and the wider business via written and verbal communication. Support reporting activities including external market, management, and Board presentations.
6. Board and Business Partnering: Provide business performance insights to CFOs and Directors, offering specialist financial knowledge as needed.
7. Data & Decision Support: Ensure high-quality financial data capture and management. Lead the provision of accurate financial data and MI to support decision-making. Define key financial metrics and promote their consistent use across the organization.
8. Governance & Controls: Ensure robust governance over data, forecasting, and reporting. Support regulatory and statutory reporting by aligning internal analysis with external obligations.
9. Senior Finance SM&CR (as required): Responsible for a finance-related SM&CR role, such as CFO or Chief Actuary, for a significant regulated subsidiary.
Who we're looking for:
The ideal candidate will have broad and deep knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting within FS organizations. They will be highly commercial, understanding key value drivers, market trends, competitive positioning, and economic factors affecting forecasting and strategic decisions. Proficiency in financial systems, modeling, data analysis, visualization, and Excel-based tools is essential. The candidate should have proven leadership skills, credibility, and the ability to develop and build high-performing teams. Strong communication skills, including board-level interactions, are required.
Essential Criteria:
* MBA, CFA, or relevant professional financial qualification (e.g., accountant, actuary, treasury, or tax professional with postgraduate degree).
* Deep knowledge of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles within FS organizations.
* Understanding of controls, procedures, and governance structures.
* Commercial awareness of key value drivers and financial mechanics in FS.
* Proficiency with financial systems, modeling, visualization, and Excel.
* Proven leadership in managing high-performance teams.
* Effective communicator with confidence in presenting to Boards.
