To provide specialist clinical scientific audiological input to the Hearing Implant Programme, including:
1. Pre- and post-operative assessments
2. Intra-operative monitoring
3. Programming of cochlear implants
4. Clinical decision-making regarding suitability for implantation and rehabilitation
5. Documentation of individual patients' progress
To contribute to a research-driven, evidence-based service, developing and implementing models of good practice outlined in the BCIG Quality Standards for Cochlear implantation.
To communicate effectively with patients with severe to profound hearing loss.
To perform assessments of hearing and speech perception in severe to profoundly deaf adults as part of the process of selection for cochlear implantation, with a high degree of independence.
To perform regular re-programming of sound processors and to make independent clinical decisions about programming options based upon knowledge of the patient, including different speech processing strategies.
To monitor performance of CI patients via independent selection and performance of measures of implant benefit post-operatively.
Undertake line management responsibilities and take a lead role within departmental research.
