Senior Environment Protection Officer

Salary: £39,152 - £48,226 per annum (pro rata for part time)

Hours:37 hours per week

Contract:Permanent

We'relooking for aSenior Environmental Protection Officer(NSIPs and Planning)to guide ourtechnical work and shape strategic improvements acrossEast Suffolk.

The role

This is a high-impact specialist role whereyou'llleadon complex environmental health issues - from air quality to contaminated landas well asadvising on National SignificantInfrastructureProjects includingSizewell CandOffshoreEnergy Projects. The role will alsoincludementoring newly qualifiedstaffas we grow our team.As akeymember of theteam,you willensureour work is informed, innovative, and effective.

We encourage Matrixand Project basedworking, which meansyou will support colleaguesacross the Environmental Protection when needs arise, ensuring that there is resilience in the team and variety in your role.

You will be:

* giving expert advice andproving planning adviceon air quality management and contaminated landand or noise, with a strong focus on major developments andNSIP’s (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects)
* takingappropriate interventionsand where necessary, enforcement actions to protect the public and environment
* managing and mentoring technical officers to buildexpertiseand resilience
* representingthe Council at technical forums and in multi-agency partnerships
* driving forward evidence-based practice and supporting strategic planning
* shaping service improvements that enhance health outcomes and sustainability.
* collaborating with and supportingthe broader teamto providetargeted interventions andadvice onStatutoryNuisance, andPrivateWaterSupplies andEnvironmental
* Permittingand broaderEnvironmental Healthenquiries.

What you will need

* A degree in Environmental Health or a related environmental science.
* Extensive knowledge of environmental health legislation and enforcement.
* Proven experience with dealing withEnvironmental Protection and Regulation to includeaselectionof specialisms including topicssuch asStatutory nuisances, air quality, environmental permitting, contaminated land,nuisance,drainageand private water supplies.
* Mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and develop others.
* A collaborative and analytical mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Desirable, but not essential:

* Experience working in local government or regulatory partnerships.
* Expertisein using monitoring or modelling software for environmental health.
* A track recordof contributing to strategic plans andNSIP’s.
