We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse to join our team at HMP Altcourse, a Category B prison in Liverpool.
This role offers the chance to work in a secure healthcare environment, supporting individuals with drug and/or alcohol dependencies while providing clinical leadership to a small, dedicated Substance Misuse team. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person‑centred care and contributing to positive health outcomes within the custodial setting.
Hours
* Monday to Friday
* 7:00am – 5:00pm
* 4 shifts per week
* 1 in 3 weekends required
Salary
This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £49,175 per annum - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK on a permanent basis and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
What you'll be doing
As a Substance Misuse Nurse, your responsibilities will vary. You will
* Provide clinical leadership and day-to-day management of a small SMS team
* Manage and support patients with substance misuse needs
* Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based practice
* Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.

Essential Criteria
* Experience managing patients with drug and/or alcohol dependencies
* Previous experience leading or supervising a team
* Registered nurse with current NMC registration.
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
* A non-judgmental and compassionate approach.
Desirable Criteria
* Prison healthcare experience (desirable but not essential)
* Non-medical prescribing qualification
Please note: Non-medical prescribing will be considered for the successful candidate following a minimum of 12 months’ service, if not already held.
