Overview
Integrated Respiratory Practitioner - Physiotherapist or Nurse
Role offered on a fixed term/secondment basis for 15 months. Hours are part-time, 30 hours per week. This position requires travel across Gloucestershire, including patients’ homes, clinics, and virtual settings. The Gloucestershire Respiratory Service delivers treatments to support patients with COPD, Asthma, Bronchiectasis, and Pulmonary Fibrosis, in collaboration with primary and secondary care. The service offers an accredited Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme, Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service, Specialist Physiotherapy Clinics, and Complex Respiratory Assessment and Review Clinics.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver respiratory care across settings including home visits, community clinics, and virtual sessions
* Support the delivery of Pulmonary Rehabilitation programmes, including education and exercise classes
* Perform assessments and reviews for patients requiring home oxygen therapy, including the use of blood gases to guide treatment
* Work closely with acute hospital respiratory teams to provide integrated care
* For Physiotherapists: manage patients with complex presentations such as breathing pattern disorders and sputum retention

Clinical and Professional Responsibilities
* Provide assessment and development of individual care planning to improve outcomes for respiratory patients in their homes or clinics
* Review patient medications as appropriate where relevant
* Work within professional guidelines to provide holistic support to patients and carers for self-management of chronic respiratory conditions
* Travel to assist in delivering Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes and educate patients; ensure safety and adherence to health and safety policies
* Assess and review patients who may require oxygen therapy, including capillary or arterial blood gas analysis and CO testing for suspected smokers
Professional and Leadership
* Maintain accurate written records in line with Trust policies
* Demonstrate effective communication with other health care providers
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service development
* Lead on or participate in activities to promote the service and engage with the multidisciplinary team
* Attend and contribute to professional perspectives and clinical supervision at team meetings
